"He was killed on March 21 1945 by a direct hit from an artillery or
a large mortar shell. Action took place east of Nieder-Schlettenbach
in the Siegfried Line. Technical Sergeant Holsomback was leading his
3rd Platoon from open ground to a high wooded hill, was pinned down
by small arms fire, then was trapped by artillery and mortar
barrage. He was listed as "Missing in Action" on March 21, 1945 and
listed as "Killed in Action" on July 2, 1945."
My grandmother, Mary Alice Roberts, recieved a letter from Colonel
Donovan P. Yeuell, 411th Infantry, on August 31, 1945 explaining what had happened to my Grandfather and telling her about his death of his son in Normady.
