103rd Cactus Division

Robert G Angel Jr

Scout Service Wins Soldier Bronze Star

The Bronze Star medal for heroism in action has been awarded to
Pfc. Robert G. Angel Jr., 20 (above), son of Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Angel,
1810 Huron, according to an article from the public relations section of the
103rd division of the Third army.
The citation accompanying the award says: "On March 6, 1945, he
voluntarily led a patrol into Neiffern, France to obtain information relative
to enemy dispositions.  The patrol was forced to repeat its mission on 2
successive nights due to the bright moonlight, which revealed its presence.
On the third attempt he crawled to within 100 yards of an enemy machine gun
nest, probing the road for mines.  the information obtained by him materially
assisted in the later successful attack on the town."
Pvt. Angel has since transferred from the 103rd (Cactus) division to the
45th division, with which he expects to return to the United States in September.
He has been in service since July 15, 1943, and overseas since Oct 6, 1944, when
he sailed with the 410th infantry regiment of the cactus division.  He also wears
the Combat Infantry badge and European theater ribbon with 2 battle stars.
