- The
Bronze Star medal for heroism in action has been awarded to
- Pfc. Robert G. Angel Jr., 20 (above), son of Mr.
and Mrs. R. G. Angel,
- 1810 Huron, according to an article from the public
relations section of the
- 103rd division of the Third army.
- The citation
accompanying the award says: "On March 6, 1945, he
- voluntarily led a patrol into Neiffern, France to
obtain information relative
- to enemy dispositions. The patrol was forced
to repeat its mission on 2
- successive nights due to the bright moonlight,
which revealed its presence.
- On the third attempt he crawled to within 100 yards
of an enemy machine gun
- nest, probing the road for mines. the
information obtained by him materially
- assisted in the later successful attack on the
town."
- Pvt. Angel has since
transferred from the 103rd (Cactus) division to the
- 45th division, with which he expects to return to
the United States in September.
- He has been in service since July 15, 1943, and
overseas since Oct 6, 1944, when
- he sailed with the 410th infantry regiment of the
cactus division. He also wears
- the Combat Infantry badge and European theater
ribbon with 2 battle stars.
