Richard E. Pearson, 83, formerly of 103 Sharon Dr., Piqua, died
at 5:30 am, Tuesday, April 29, 2008 in
- Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was born November 26, 1924 in
Piqua to the late Walter K. and Ionah (Bard)
- Pearson. He married Selma M. Kaser August 2, 1944 in Piqua;
she preceded him in death May 25, 2003.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Cindy) Pearson, Sr., Randi
M. (Carolyn A.) Pearson all of Piqua;
- three daughters, Patti Heater of Fishers, Ind., Deborah
Shepard, Barbara (Thomas) Hudson all of Piqua;
- grandchildren, Ron Pearson, Jr., Ryan Pearson, Carrie (Mitch)
Divens, Rob Heater, Anne Heater, Mick Leffel,
- Megan (Lance) Karn, Brock Shepard, Allison Shepard, Molly
Hudson, Joey Hudson, Rich (Lynsey) Pearson,
- John Pearson, Laura Pearson, and Andy Pearson; six great
grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Weikert of Troy.
- He was preceded in death by a son, Richard E. Pearson, Jr., a
grandson, Corporal Samuel Pearson, and two
- sisters, Mildred Gearheart, and Margie Higgins.
Mr. Pearson was a 1942 graduate of Piqua Central High School,
obtained his Bachelor of Science degree
- from Wittenberg University in 1949, earned his Masters degree
in Education from Bowling Green State University
- in 1955, and furthered his education through Wright State
University to secure his license in Educational
- Administration. He began his long career in education with
teaching one year in Kenton, and returning to his
- hometown where he would teach in Piqua Secondary Schools until
1970 when he accepted an Administrator's
- position with the Piqua City School District until his
retirement in 1982. Concurrent with his professional career
- was his love of sports as evidenced by his various
designations as Coach between 1950 and 1970 for
- Basketball, Football, and Track and Field where his teams won
numerous League Championships. He was the
- founder of the annual Mote Relays, served as a rules
interpreter for athletics in the State of Ohio, and a Track and
- Field official for thirty years. He was a United States Army
veteran having served overseas during World War II,
- and continued his love for our Country through his military
service in the National Guard where he served as a
- Battery Commander, and served in the Reserves until his
eventual retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a
- member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, the V. F. W. Post #
4874 where he served as an officer,
- Antioch Shrine of Dayton, a 32 Degree Mason through the Warren
Masonic Lodge # 24 where he served as
- Grand Master, the former Order of the Eastern Star Chapter
#320 of Piqua where he served as Worthy Patron
- prior to its merger with the Sidney Chapter, and a long time
active member of St. Paul's Evangelical and
- Reformed Church.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am Saturday, May 3,
2008 in St. Paul's Evangelical and
- Reformed Church with the Rev. Frank J. Sapp, Sr., Fr. Robert
Baldwin, and Rev. Pat McKinney officiating
- followed by full military honors provided by the Veterans
Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be from
- 2:00-8:00 pm Friday in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral
Home where a Masonic Lodge service will be
- conducted at 7:00 pm. Interment will be in Arlington National
Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be
- made to Piqua Education Foundation, 719 E. Ash St., Piqua, OH
45356, or Red & Blue Athletic Scholarship,
- 1 Indian Trail, Piqua, OH 45356. Condolences to the family may
