103rd Cactus Division

GEORGE H. STORER

George entered service from Flint, Michigan  and reported for basic training at 
Camp Claiborne, Louisiana on November 28, 1942.  
He joined the 103d Division, 409th Regiment, D Company and 
was assigned to the Motor Pool under Lieutenant John Lyon.  
The Division was moved to Camp Howze, Texas in November, 1943.  
He was deployed overseas on the USS Monticello and landed in Marseille, France 
on October 20, 1944.   He drove 6 by 6s and Semis for the 409th, 1st Battalion.  
He was grazed by a sniper’s bullet but did not report to medical.

He states that he was in Italy making a liquor run for
the enlisted men’s club back in Innsbruck, Austria.
Shortly after VE Day, George was transferred to a
Chemical Mortar Battalion and was getting ready
for duty in the Pacific when the war ended
