ERNEST (JACK) M MORRIS

1943 – Camp Claiborne
 
Post VE Day - 1945
 
Jack Morris entered the service on December 3rd, 1942 from Poplar Bluff, MO.
Upon completion of his basic training at Camp Claiborne, LA, 
he was assigned to the 409th Regiment, Company D - Heavy Weapons. 
He served as a .30-cal water-cooled (Heavy) machine gunner.  
He participated in the 3d Army Louisiana Maneuvers in 1943 and 
was later moved to Camp Howze as cadre. In September of ’44 
he was transported to Camp Shanks and boarded the USS Monticello.  
He arrived in Marseille, France on Oct. 20, 1944.  Morris fought through 
the Vosges Mountains, Alsace, Germany and Austria as part of 
General Alexander Patch’s 7th Army.
 
Morris advanced in rank and is known to have been a Section Sergeant
 in the later stages of the War.
 
Some of Morris’ war time activities are referenced in the book, 
They Made Me a Spy, by George F. Combs.
Jack passed away on April 8, 2001.
