D COMPANY - HEAVY (81MM) MORTARS. TRANSFERRED 
TO CAMP HOWZE, TX AS CADRE IN NOV. 1943. PROMOTED TO 
STAFF SGT. IN APRIL 1944 AND ASSIGNED SECTION 
LEADER RESPONSIBILITY IN 3RD PLATOON. ARRIVED IN 
MARSEILLES, FRANCE ON 10/20/44 AS MEMBER OF PATCH'S 7TH 
ARMY AND FOUGHT THROUGH THE VOSGES CAMPAIGN 
AS FORWARD OBSERVER. CAPTURED AT SELESTAT ON 
DECEMBER 2ND, 1944. SERVED REMAINDER OF WAR AS POW 
IN STALAG XIIA AND OTHERS. LIBERATED IN MAY 1945.
